Salt Dough Ornaments

Salt Dough Ornaments are a farmhouse classic. We grew up making these each year to decorate the tree and to give as gifts to teachers or family members. This year I made these with my 1 year old daughter for the 1st time. They may not be perfect in design, but their perfect in my eyes.

SUPPLIES:

  • ½ cup salt
  • ½ cup warm water
  • 1 cup flour
  • cookie stamp
  • cookie cutters
  • twine or ribbon
  • scissors
  • parchment paper

DIRECTIONS:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a medium mixing bowl, add salt and flour. Stir to combine. Pour a half of cup of warm water into the mixture and stir well until a dough ball forms. Roll salt dough onto a sheet of floured parchment paper or pastry mat.

Cut ornaments shapes from dough using cookie cutters and press designs into shapes using cookie press. Add a whole for hanging salt dough ornaments with a straw. Place prepared salt dough ornaments onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.  Baked ornaments for 30 minutes and allow to cool.

Cut ribbon in 12 inches strips and thread through salt dough ornaments to hang, securing with a knot or bow.
